I have been making a 3D game engine since October 2019 (see github). It supports PBR+IBL, PhysX, simple 3D audio and more. It has an actor/component system and I am working on a project editor for it.
Why?
It's satisfying. It gives you the variety of game development and lets you understand in-depth what you're doing. Not the best strategy for becoming a better gamedev, but it suits me.
